About Haryana Welfare Society for Persons with Speech & Hearing Impairment.

Haryana welfare Society for with Speech & Hearing Impairment was established on 23rd September, 1971 by the then Hon’ble Governor, Haryana with a view to provide Education, Vocational Training, counseling & remedial services to hearing impaired children and facilitate their all-round development, self-reliance rehabilitation.

The Hon’ble Governor of Haryana is the President of the Society and the Hon’ble Chief Minister is the Vice President of the Society. Madam Lady Governor is the Vice President of the Society. Sh. Krishan Kumar Chopra is holding the charge of Vice President and Chairperson of the Society. The Deputy Commissioner in a district is the Ex-Officio Chairman of the respective Centre in the district.
The Society has setup 08 Welfare Centre for Persons with Speech & Hearing Impairment at Gurugram, Karnal, Sonepat, Hisar, Sirsa, Nagina (Mewat), Raipur Rani and Panchkula.

TheWelfare Centres/offices of the Society are situated in following area of the land:-

  1. Gurgaon – 15 Acres.
  2. Hisar – 3.5 Acres.
  3. Sirsa – 3.5 Acres.
  4.  Karnal – 2 Acres.
  5. Raipur Rani 16 Kanals – 11 Marla’s
  6. Sonepat – 3 Acres.
  7. Panchkula (H.Q.) – 3649 Sq. mtr
  8. Nagina (Mewat) Approx. – 1 Acre

Education is imparted to the children by qualified teachers through total communication methods –lip reading, speech training, auditory training, sign language and gestures. The students are taught the syllabus of normal students’ upto 10+2 through specially trained teachers. The school curriculum corresponds to the syllabus of the Haryana Board of school Education, Bhiwani. In these schools, the Society has its own buildings. These schools are affiliated with Haryana Board of School Education, Bhiwani. The existing schools of the Society have permanent recognition from the education department, Haryana. Every year around 1000 students are imparted education in these schools.

Keeping in view the goal of rehabilitation of the hearing-impaired students, the schools/Centre’s have been running different vocational trades. The Organization has taken unique initiatives such as Early Intervention Project, Digital Sign language Lab and deaf hunar which are in line with National Education Policy (NEP) ,2020. The organization has started the RCI recognized Diploma level courses- D.Ed in Special Education (HI) and Diploma in Teaching Indian Sign Language (DTISL) and is running two batches.

Apart from education, the Society is committed to address multiple needs of these special children, like medical care, residential care, sports, judo and cultural activities. To empower the children, the Society regularly organizes workshops and skill trainings like welding, fitting, ceramic and pottery making, art & craft, beautician training, tailoring, computer education, computerized embroidery workshops, photography and self-defense.
