EDUCATION:
The education is imparted to the children through total communication methods i.e. lip reading, speech/visual training, touch sensation and gesture. The latest possible skills are used for the teaching purposes. The students are taught the syllabus of normal students through specially trained teachers
who are qualified in the education of hearing impaired. The students have been appearing in middle and high schools examinations of Haryana Board of school education, Bhiwani. The present number of students is 707 which is likely to increase as the students are still taking admission.
SPORTS AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES:
Expression of energies through games and sports are directly co-related with some of the very important traits of personality of an individual. This phenomenon is more conspicuous in the deaf children who are deprived of spoken language. The children of the Centres are encouraged to
participate in Sports/Games. To provide an opportunity for their creative self expression, the children are provided special coaching of indoor and outdoor games. Over the years, our children also took part in cultural Programme i.e. Group dance, solo dance, mono acting and drawing & painting competitions organized by State/District authorities.
HOSTEL FACILITY:
In all the six Centres hostel facility is available for the boys and girls separately. Hostels are being supervised by one Warden and two House Mothers.
DAY CARE CENTRE:-
The Day Care Centre for hearing impaired children is also functioning in the building of Haryana Institute of Speech & Hearing, Sector-16, Panchkula. At present eighteen hearing impaired children are being
imparted education.
E.N.T. O.P.D. SERVICES:
The Society runs O.P.D. services at Panchkula (Headquarter), Gurgaon and Raipur Rani where ENT specialists examine not only the inmates of the Centres but also others having speech and hearing problems. The Centres have testing equipment’s and rooms for assessing hearing loss and the diagnosis
of the patients with speech problems. If the patients could not be treated at the centre level, they are referred to E.N.T. Departments of various Hospitals near by the Centres. Health records are maintained in the center individually. Speech Therapy and Audiometry tests are also performed at Headquarter
building at Sector-16, Panchkula
Upgradation of Centres/Schools:
Non upgradation of existing schools is really a great problem to these students. After completing their education in these schools the children have to leave the studies as there is no other school in Haryana
which may cater to their needs of higher education. Thus they become deprived of higher education and have to face unemployment too due to their low level education.
SPONSORSHIP SCHEME:
The Sirsa Centre has initiated sponsorship scheme for the needy and meritorious children studying in its various classes.
Philanthropists and generous people are invited/welcome to come forward to adopt a child by paying his/her monthly expenditure incurred on board and lodging etc.
Minimum amount of sponsorship scheme is Rs. 1000/- P.M.
Hotel Management Training:
Haryana became one of the first states to successfully provide hospitality training to hearing-impaired children under the Government of India’s “Capacity Building & Service Provider” Scheme through the Tourism Department/Tourism Corporation Haryana. A total of 109 students from welfare centres in Gurgaon, Sonepat, Karnal, Sirsa, Hisar, and Kurukshetra were trained in housekeeping and waiter services by the Institute of Hotel Management, Faridabad and IHM Jyotisar, Kurukshetra to develop employable skills and self-reliance. Students received a stipend of Rs. 1500, uniforms, and free boarding and lodging. The initiative received wide appreciation, and many trainees secured job offers from private hospitality groups including Grey Falcon Restaurant, Hotel Park Plaza, Lemon Tree Hotels, and Pallavi Group of Hotels.
